Hacker House exposes major security flaw in US election voting machines

DEMOCRACY IS NOT A GAME

…Unless you’re placing your vote on a popular electronic voting machine – one used in at least 16 US States during local State and county elections in 2016 – that we hacked to play Doom (Space Invaders also available).

Hacker House exposes major security flaw in US election voting machinesIn all seriousness, we know – we all know – that secure voting is vital to democracy, so is imperative that security flaws in existing electronic voting systems are exposed.

Shockingly, we were able to breach the security of this election machine (a Diebold AccuVote-TSx) with just a couple of days’ research.

Our full technical teardown, published on the Hacker House blog, shows how any attacker could infect the machine in a stealthy way, offering the potential for votes to be manipulated and falsified.

If, like us, you value your right to a secure voting system, please share this blog post.

We’ve highlighted these vulnerabilities to the press, but it looks like it’s going to take more than that to get the US government to take action on demanding complete security in election voting machines.

Please get loud about this issue. You can make a difference.

All the best,

Matthew, Jennifer and the Hacker House team
