Kidnappings, Cyber Attacks and Social Media Crises Are Topics at 2nd International Crisis Management Conference in Boston, April 5

Jessica Buchanan who was kidnapped by Somali Land Pirates and Rescued by Seal Team 6 Will Deliver Keynote

Middletown, RI; January 10, 2017 – Organizers of the International Crisis Management Conference (ICMC) series today announced its second annual one-day conference on April 5 at the Aloft Seaport in Boston. Today’s most pressing crisis management issues, including cyber attacks, social media’s role in both instigating as well as managing crises, and international business continuity best practices for preventing and responding to crises will be presented by prominent crisis preparedness professionals.

There will be nine speakers at ICMC 2017.  A sample of the speakers and their topics include:

  • Jessica Buchanan, a former aid worker and current activist who in 2011 was kidnapped in Somalia by land pirates and subsequently rescued in a Seal Team 6 operation ordered by Pres. Obama will deliver the keynote address.
  • Michael Barrow, Global Resiliency Crisis Lead, eBay, will provide insight to those that are tasked with developing programs. One of the most difficult aspects of developing and implementing a resiliency program is obtaining “buy in” or voluntary compliance from stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Michael Bouchard, Chief Security Officer at Janus Global Operations and former Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) official, will discuss current and future threats posed by cyber attacks and how organizations can address them.
  • Dan Gortze, Security Systems Sr. Manager at Dell SecureWorks (SecureWorks is an ICMC Gold Sponsor) will present the latest strategies and tactics for preventing and responding to cyber attacks.
  • David Kalson, Principal of Kalson Communications, Partner at Beacon Advisors and PreparedEx Associate, will cover social media as a double-edged sword — both an instigator of crises and an important tool for preventing and managing crises.
  • Leanne Metz, Associate Director of Mead Johnson Nutrition, will address crisis preparedness for multi-national companies and how they can maintain business continuity during and after a crisis.

PreparedEx, the leading crisis, business continuity, emergency management and security management firm, manages ICMC and created the ICMC conference series in response to the growing demand for internationally regionalized education and training for preparedness professionals.

Rob Burton, Managing Director of PreparedEx and ICMC, said, “Conference attendees will be encouraged to interact freely with our speakers to stimulate exchanges of vital information that will prove invaluable if we are to successfully anticipate and overcome the most pressing crisis-related challenges today.”

ICMC conferences are open to crisis planners from every business sector, non-profit organizations, religious and educational institution.
