Summer is Blowing Us By – While New InfoSec Acronyms Galore!
As we pass the Black Hat 2013 event and look to the future with
RSA Conference 2014 just around the corner next February, we
still have lots to do. It seems as the summer fades, the news for
cyber security continues to grow and so many new acryonyms
arrive on the scene. APT, well we all know that’s advanced
persistent threat, right? CVE – been around for a while but most of
us get it wrong – it’s Common Vulnerability and Exposure,
something our Executive Producer talks about all the time, while he
serves on MITRE’s CVE advisory board. Then you have MDM – Mobile Device Management –
soon you’ll be hearing about Mobile Application Management (MAM) as yet another category for
information security which seems to stem from Network Access Control (NAC), now called Bring
Your own Device (BYOD) gaining momentum and potential convergence with MDM, MAM and
NAC into the perfect answer to ‘what is on my network and does it belong here, if at all?’. So as
acronyms abound, expect more to arrive on the scene by next year’s RSA Conference, which I
hope to be attending with our staff.
We at Cyber Defense Magazine are constantly working on obtaining information on best
practices in network and information security as well as what’s actually happening out there. As
a result, we have at least one new hot story on our website daily – usually I’m the culprit
because I’m very tuned into what the cyber crime and hacking community are up to, as well as
