2015: Cyberwarfare, mCommerce and mBanking Under Attack!

Last month, we discussed the Sony Pictures Entertainment
(SPE) breach and some say it will be an ongoing saga for
them this year. Being a victim is no fun. Some of the things I
hope you already know and many will learn from this breach,
which CDM’s original founder, Gary Miliefsky, wrote in his
recent “2015: Year of the RAT” threat report are worth
repeating a) don’t say anything in an email you wouldn’t say to
someone’s face, b) assume you already are infected – so start
cleaning up, c) encryption is key, d) password management is
a must and finally e) backup and test your backups. This
month’s edition, we cover 5 Ways To Protect Your Business
Against Cyber Criminals, the Evolving Security Threat
Landscape and much more.

I believe that we will expect to see continued growth in cyberwarfare where there are absolutely
no rules and no Geneva convention. Just look at the attack map from Kaspersky or this one
from Norse at http://map.ipviking.com and you’ll probably agree with me – the nation state vs
state attacks are happening daily under our noses.

On top of that, as the famous US bank robber Willie Sutton once said when asked “why do you
rob banks?” his answer was plain and simple “because that’s where the money is…” Isn’t it
obvious that online banking breaches will continue to grow – just look at what the World Bank
said about bank fraud last year - $500b and growing. It’s the second largest form of crime on
the globe, drug trafficking beating it by $100b.

Add to this, the shift from e-commerce to mCommerce – mobile commerce and payment
systems and where do you think most of the malware and cybercrime will be aiming their
attacks…if Willie Sutton were alive today, I’m sure he would say at Mobile Banking, Mobile
Payments and Mobile Commerce. Stay tuned for a wild ride this year.

We love to focus on the positive at CDM, so read on and continue to stay vigilent and learn new
tips, tools and techniques to stay one step ahead of the next threat.

To our faithful readers, Enjoy
