How secure is your hybrid cloud?
By Milica D. Djekic
The cloud’s technologies got present for many years back. Starting with the first public e-mail
accounts and social media solutions over the well-developed capacities for data storage to the
highly sophisticated hybrid advancements – the cloud is all this time with us. Basically, there
would be three main types of these systems – private, public and hybrid. We would classify them
based on their deployment model. Also, we would deal with the Software as a Service (SaaS),
Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) being distinguished
regarding their service model. The goal of this article would not be to discuss all these models,
but rather focus on the hybrid cloud’s technology and try to explain some of its security
challenges. It’s quite necessary to understand the rest of deployment models in order to see their
correlation with the hybrid cloud. Practically, the hybrid cloud would use some of advantages of
public and private cloud’s systems and it would undoubtedly need a certain level of skills to get
applied in a practice. In addition, through this effort – we would try to deal with the security
challenges of that technology and provide some explanations in the pretty simple terms. We
believe that would be welcome in order to make our readership better cope with this quite
requiring topic.
What is the hybrid cloud?
As we would suggest through our summary – there would be three sorts of clouds based on their
deployment model and they are public, private and hybrid cloud. In order to understand the
hybrid cloud – we would need to begin with the previous two being the public and private ones.
Let’s start with the public cloud! First, we would try to explain what the cloud’s technology is.
It’s a quite convenient way to share data over the web relying on both – the public and private
datacenters. The datacenters are sets of servers and IT infrastructure that could host your
valuable information. If the datacenter is public – it would normally cope with the public cloud.
The main advantages of public cloud are that it’s more cost-effective and can store a lot of data.
On the other hand, some experts would claim that this sort of cloud’s systems would deal with
many security concerns. In opposite to the public cloud – the private cloud would deal with the
private infrastructure of some organization, it would be less cost-effective and more internal.
Many researchers would agree that the
private cloud would be safer than the
public one. Finally, if we try to combine
all the advantages of these two solutions
– we would get the hybrid cloud. It’s a
sort of technology that would store more
sensitive data in a private platform
offering them much safer environment,
while less sensitive information would go
to the public surrounding offering them
much cheaper conditions.
