It’s April and It’s Truly Time for Spring Malware Cleaning

Spring 2014 is here and we’re looking at explosive malware and
heightened risks – just look at NTT’s cybersecurity report that recently
came out – they tracked malware in honeypots but more than ½ of it
got past 11 of the top antivirus solutions in their independent tests.

Good news for the bad guys – bad news for the AV vendors – time to

go back to the drawing board or scoop up some innovations that deal
with zero day malware and advanced persistent threats.

On top of all of this we have some of the most annoying malware in the form of advertisements –
malvertisements. This is where companies like Conduit (why areyn’t they in big trouble with the
FTC.gov for example?) say ‘let me help you build an app – let me help you monetize’ and in return the
end-user becomes the victim of well-targeted spyware – eavesdropping on their geolocation in many
cases or looking at their behavior in their browser or throughout their mobile device.

Always running in the background, always bringing up the advertisements they think you are
interested in – how kind of them, right? Wrong. This kind of spying adware opens doors for

competing government agencies throughout the globe to attack each other by way of their citizens
devices.

It’s time for a big malware spring cleaning. If you think the free version of Angry Birds or Candy Crush
is truly free, think again.

So, as we enter the springtime of 2014, we should now all agree that it’s time to reclaim our personal
data, privacy and devices from the remote eavesdroppers and spies…from online predators to cyber
criminals and cyber nations at war, get them off our devices…start cleaning.

Use the most advanced tools you can find and don’t trust just one – combine them – for example look

at Fireeye for your network and SnoopWall for your mobile devices and try Emsisoft on Windows. Dig
deeper, clean and keep cleaning. Checkout virusbtn.com and read their VB100 report so you can find
other interesting cleanup tools. Spring cleaning should start now and not stop until you are certain to
own your network and computing devices. That’s your spring project – what are you waiting for?

To our faithful readers, Enjoy
